Energy saving lamp is getting popular and can be used almost anywhere. In selecting an energy saving lamp, there are a few factors to be considered including Brand, Power, Energy Efficiency, Durability, Appearance, etc.. Here are some hints on how you can make the choice.

Select a Reputable Brand

Energy Saving Lamp is getting popular for its tremendous savings in energy and cost. There are many brands in the market offering energy saving lamp which comes in different quality. Since the manufacture of energy saving lamp requires sophisticated design, advanced technology and upscale equipment, a reputable and well-established brand which receives recognition from the industry offers more assurance on quality and safety.

MEGAMAN® is a name for innovation and quality. Over the years, MEGAMAN® has been honoured with awards and recognitions from various organisations worldwide, assuring the technological, environmental and product quality achievements in the industry.

Choose the Right Wattages

As energy saving lamps consume 80% less energy compared with traditional light bulbs, you can choose a lower wattage energy saving lamp to replace your incandescent bulb, halogen reflector or metal halide lamp with reference to the "Wattage Conversion Table" below.

Look for the Energy Label with the Highest Energy Efficiency Class

Many countries and regions, such as EU and Hong Kong, have adopted energy efficiency policies and introduced the mandatory or voluntary Energy Efficiency Label scheme to provide information on energy consumption and efficiency to help consumers make better purchasing decisions.

The energy efficiency of the appliance is rated in terms of a set of energy efficiency classes on the label. For example, Enforced by the EU directive, Grade A is the most energy efficient while Grade G represents the least efficient. The labels also provide other useful information to the customers for comparison with various models.

On every label, you will find:

1. the energy efficiency category from A to G
2. the luminous flux of the bulb in lumens
3. the electricity consumption of the lamp in watts
4. the average lamp life in hours

MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps receive energy efficiency recognition from organisations worldwide, reassuring its luminous efficacy. Most of MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps are rated CLASS A on Energy Label recognised by the EU and awarded Energy Label by Hong Kong Voluntary Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme for Compact Fluorescent Lamps. Moreover, MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps meet the standard outlined in the Energy Efficiency Recommended Program as certified by the Energy Saving Trust of the United Kingdom.

Check the Lamp Life of an Energy Saving Lamp

When purchasing a new light source or replacement bulb, lamp life is a very important consideration. An energy saving lamp with a longer lamp life saves you cost and effort on maintenance, it also reduces solid waste on disposal. In general, an energy saving lamp can operate from 6,000 to 15,000 hours. Taking time factor into consideration, the average cost of an energy saving lamp can be much lower than an incandescent bulb.

 Lamp CostOperating HoursAverage LampCost per hr
Energy Saving Lamp (11W)USD 510,000USD 0.0005
Incandescent Bulb (60W)USD 11,000USD 0.001

MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps, enhanced with INGENIUM® technology, enables deliverance of incredible lighting performances (7% brighter than normal energy saving lamp), extended operating life up to 15,000 hours, improved switching cycle of 600,000 times and tremendous reduction in lamp size, making them more durable than ever.

Choose the Appropriate Colour Temperature

Colour Temperature is a measure of the Colour of Light, represented in the unit K (Kelvin). The lower the colour temperature, the light appears as yellow or red of warm colour tone. Such light source is most suitable for a homey environment to create a comfortable feel. On the other hand, the higher the value, the light appears as blue or white of cool colour tone. Consumers can select the colour temperature of the energy saving lamp based on their preference, application occasions and lighting effect desired.

MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps are available in different colour temperatures: 2700K Warmwhite, 3000K Warmwhite, 4000K Coolwhite and 6500K Daylight for you to choose from.

Colour Temperature
2700K=Warmwhite
3000K=Warmwhite
4000K=Coolwhite
6500K=Daylight

Check the Size and Match the Lamp Base

Bulbs come in different shapes, sizes and functions. As the technology of energy saving lamp is getting matured, it is now available as many shapes and in comparable size as incandescent lamps. The most common shapes are candle, bulb, tubular and reflector.

In choosing an energy saving lamp, you have to determine the function of your lamp. Will it be used for mood lighting, decorative lighting, safety, reading, as a focal point, or in some other way? For example, you may need a candle bulb for your chandelier or a high intensity bright reflector lamp for your reading lamp.

Another consideration is the lamp base. Check the lamp base of the lamp fixture to determine the one which fits into it. The most common ones include:

Lamp Bases
Small Edison Screw=E14
Edison Screw=E27
Bayonet cap=B22
GU10=GU10
GX53=GX53

MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps are available in different shape and lamp bases. Dedicated in developing new technology, MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps are also equipped with different capabilities such as dimming, sensors, after-glow features, etc., providing quality total lighting solution to consumers.

Concern Environmental Issues

The world is facing a lot of problems such as global warming, greenhouse effect, pollutions, energy depletion, etc., which do not only endanger ourselves, but the future of our posterity. While "Going Green" is the trend, it is everyone's responsibility to take immediate action to protect the environment.

Some brands of energy saving lamps pay more effort in environmental protection and strictly control the use of hazardous materials including lead and mercury in their manufacturing process. Moreover, those using recycling materials for product and packaging reduce solid waste.

Being a true eco-friendly lighting company, MEGAMAN® sets environmental management as one of the company's highest priorities. All MEGAMAN® Energy Saving Lamps exported to Europe, in which lead-free glass tubes, recyclable plastic, water-based adhesive are used, are RoHS compliant. Eco-friendly materials, such as AMALGAM, a solid form of mercury which would not release mercury vapour under room temperature, are used as well, making MEGAMAN® the best choice in energy-saving lighting.
