With less than a month to go until the lighting family roll into Frankfurt for the latest instalment of Light+Building, it's time to start thinking about what might be on offer at this year's show.
The current pace of change and development in the industry, makes two years feel like a lifetime (although I'm not sure we could cope with a Light+Building every year!). Here's what I'll be looking out for:
1) Smart Lighting & the IoT
We've been talking seriously about the IOT now for quite a few years, but we're still yet to see it develop into the golden goose we all expect it to be. I'll be looking for the latest products and developments, but more importantly, I'll be looking for signs smart lighting is ready to break out and jump into the mainstream, whether it be as part of connected offices, the hospitality industry or street lighting.
At Megaman we've been proponents of Bluetooth technology since we introduced our INGENIUM Blu range back in 2014, we firmly believed it was going to be a pivotal technology in the IOT revolution. Things have moved slower than we expected, but the news of the new Bluetooth mesh standard late last year has changed things again. This new mesh network really is impressive and could be a game changer. By the time we get to Light+Building, we'll be almost six months since the announcement, so I'm keen to see what mesh enabled products will be on offer.
Last time we visited Frankfurt, TM30-15 was just starting to gain traction in the industry. Since then it's been a whirlwind and really got a foothold, last month I was in Norway presenting a seminar to 50 colleagues on the measurement system. It's great to see and hear so many people understanding the system. I'll be looking for examples of how it's being integrated into new products and how they perform.
4) Vintage Lighting
One of the biggest design trends of 2018 looks set to be vintage lighting, refitted and modelled with new energy efficient, smart LED lighting. Often referred to as modern retro, this trend is going to be big across retail, commercial and home. I'm excited to see how the designers have incorporated the trend into their designs for the coming year.
Megaman at Light+Building
Megaman will once again have two stands at the show; our luminaires and lamps stand H70, in Hall 4, Level 4.1, where you will be able to see our latest LED Luminaires all smart compatible with Ingenium ZB. The highlights include the latest edition of our Estela recessed integrated LED louvre panels and Marco, a versatile and compact LED track light plus much more.
Our TECOH stand GO3 in Hall 4, Level 4.0 will be the place to go for OEM customers to see the latest developments and innovations from our components division. Highlights of the stand will be a new extended range to include drivers, single and multi-channel, DALi, SELV and non-SELV. And the introduction of smart modules equiped with our Ingenium ZB technology to allow OEMs to create their own smart lighting products.
It's an exciting time with lots of innovation, so this year's show should be a cracker!
